WW2: Wendy's, The W, Round 2

Or: Things I learned from sitting down for lunch with the Wendy’s Big Boss

Last week I went to Wendy’s and I broke ranks with my typical order of two $.99 cheeseburger deluxes and instead ventured into the rarified air of the 1% burger ordering aficionado: I ordered the new The W burger.

Wendy's ad campaign and giant color displays of The W lead me to believe that I would ...

Survivor: One World - Never Say Die

Previously on Survivor (I’m No Dummy)...

The episode starts off in Bizarro world when Troy starts “attacking” Christina and none other than Alicia comes to her defense! It’s a strange new world where enemies are BFFs and share clothes. Troyzan realizes that he is on his own and it’s now him agains...

The W: Why? What went wrong? Wanked! Wendy's!

Posted on April 25, 2012 at 6:20 PM Comments comments (7)

Last night found me taking the family out to dinner. And, well, not a nice dinner, mind you, but a dinner all the same. We met at Wendy’s before attending a religious service at 7:00.

Lauryn was thrilled because she could get chicken nuggets and fries – tan colored food; a child’s best friend!

Dana was at least 51% excited by the prospect because it meant that she wouldn’t h...

Beer Club Vol 2: The Boys are Back!

Posted on April 24, 2012 at 3:10 PM Comments comments (0)

I had a bit of difficulty getting the Beer Club members in round one to A) drink their beer and then B) write about their beer. I had anticipated that the writing part would be a challenge for a group of non-writerly types, but I figured that EVE...

A couple of weeks ago a woman called our shop. I happened to be out when she called so one of my installers took the message. She wanted to see about adding a surround system to her TV and wanted someone to come out and take a look at her home.

I didn’t get back to her that day – I know, that’s bad on me. You should REALLY return all calls by the end of the day, even if just to say, “I will have to call you ...

Dogfish Head 120 Minute - Like drinking a hammer!

Posted on April 21, 2012 at 7:45 PM Comments comments (3)

“It's way too hardcore for me. Remember my raped-by-a-pine-tree metaphor? 120 Minute is like being gang-banged by the entirety of Plumas National Forest!” – Dennis Burger

For those who missed the brilliance of Mr. Burger’s earlier comments – or wonder what minutes and beer have to do with one another – I offer this reprinting of a text exchange between myself and Dennis a few months ago:

Survivor: One World - I'm No Dummy

Previously on Survivor…(Go Out With a Bang)

There’s a ton of bad news and foreshadowing for Jay throughout this ep starting with him saying, “I dreamed I got shot. I was about to get capped again and I woke up.” We get another DIY challenge this time in the form of randomly dividing into two teams...

Impressive. Most impressive.

With the nature of my job – installing TVs and sound systems and what-have-you's – I am often called on to follow behind the work of other trades. And with very few exceptions – and I mean VERY few -- I’m pretty unimpressed by the quality of work that I encounter.

Cheap wire, poor workmanship, things just plan connected incorrectly, settings setting-ed wrong, all that stuff. It’s not unusual for us to go beh...

Custom Install: No Lutron shade left behind!

Posted on April 16, 2012 at 2:20 PM Comments comments (6)

I’ve been doing my current job since 1998 and I’ll be honest, it is VERY rare that I go in to work and do something that our company has never, ever, NEVER done before. Between hundreds -- possibly thousands -- of TV and speaker installs over the years, there is little we haven’t done or seen. Pressed play on a VCR and had a porno pop up? Yup. Reached on top of a cabinet and found a pistol? Sure. Found bowls filled with white powder that wasnR...

Previously on Survivor…(Just Annihilate Them aka the 7-Up episode)

Jay and Troyzan lament that Jonas kinda got screwed by the (un)luckiness of the merge, but now that they voted out a guy, the next vote is obvious: it has to be a girl. 100%. Fair is fair. We find out the reward challenge is a 7-Up sponsored event...

Bond's Beer of Choice #10 - Assassin

With the recent news that Bond will be drinking a (ugh!) Heineken in the upcoming film,  and since I’ve been on a beer terror lately, I've come up with a list of 10 beers that I could imagine Bond actually drinking.

Not always ordering, mind you, because I can’t really picture too many moments wher...

Bond, James Bond. Neither shaken nor stirred.

“A dry martini,” he said. “One. In a deep champagne goblet.”

“Oui, monsieur.”

“Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?”

“Certainly monsieur.” The barman seemed ple...
