It’s time for a beer review! And, by Gar…it’s been a while!
So Dana’s parents were visiting not too long ago and when I Johnny-stepped out to the store to buy myself some proper comfort and succor in the form of a 12-pack of oh-so-delicious Pyramid Outburst IPA, I thought I’d do the son-in-law-ey thing and pick up some beer for Dana’s dad to enjoy. ('Cause that Pyramid; she ain’t for a-sharin̵...Read Full Post »

aka: A woman's journey to becoming the Tech Chick
Call it chauvinist or sexist or extremist or whatever other “ist” you care to use (well, maybe not "botanist" or "hairstylist") but for the most part, the audio/video industry is a man’s game.
(I’m adding this nice little paragraph space to allow tempers to cool, riled bloods to unrile and thoughts to tem...Read Full Post »

It’s been a while since I’ve purchased any new music. (I believe the last disc I bought was They Might Be Giant’s “Join Us.") I have nothing against iTunes, but I just don’t like buying music as digital files. Maybe it’s because of my age – as I grew up first buying cassettes and then switching to CDs – but I like to have the physical media. I like to hold the sleeve, see the artwork on the disc and look through the liner n...Read Full Post »

I like Fiona Apple. And by “like” I mean I really like her. A lot.
Ever since she broke onto the scene with Criminal – “I’ve been a bad, bad girl…” – in 1996, I have been a big fan and have purchased all of her albums; Tidal, When the Pawn…, and Extraordinary Machine. And I listen to them over and over. And then over some more. (It's really one of Dana's favorite things a...Read Full Post »

"In Asian and Chinese philosophy, the concept of yin yang, which is often referred to in the West as 'yin and yang,' literally meaning 'dark and light,' is used to describe how polar opposites or seemingly contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other in turn. Opposites thus only exist in relation to each other.” -- Wikipedia

I love Walt Disney, and I’m doing my darnedest to instill that love into Lauryn as well. We recently took her to her first trip to Disney World where we spent three great days at the parks. And several months ago our family went on aRead Full Post »

I recently re-watched an old Twilight Zone episode from Season 1 titled “What You Need.” In it, an old street peddler happens to know the exact thing that people “need” to help their lives in some way. He gives one guy a pair of scissors and the guy wanders around wondering what the scissors are for…until his scarf gets caught in an eleva...Read Full Post »

As I write this, I am looking out the window of a rented home at powdery white sand the consistency of confectioner’s sugar and blue-green, rolling, crashing waves. I’m thankfully on vacation this week and SO glad to have ducked away from my custom installation offices for a brief respite.
I can also imagine that while I write this, the phone is continuing to ring off the hook at Custom Theater; both lines tag-teaming each oth...Read Full Post »

Much like how the swallows return to Capistrano or the Monarch butterflies take their yearly sojourn to Mexico to fill up on off-brand, over-the-counter Viagra and worm-filled tequila, AV manufacturers tend to roll-out new models on a predictable, yearly basis.
Usually it is in that golden window for electronics that occurs sometime after CES – January – and before CEDIA – September – giving ...Read Full Post »
