Beer Review: Five For Drinking

Posted on November 3, 2012 at 4:50 PM Comments comments (0)

This round of tasting is about as varied and different as any five brews I’ve put together so far. An Imperial IPA, a Red IPA, two pumpkin ales, and a coconut-vanilla stout!

And I came across these beers in most unusual manners as well. One beer I discovered watching some guy’s video review on YouTube; another my business partner traded me for; the third was a home brew gift from a brewer in Arizona that...

The Force is Strong...with Disney?

Posted on October 31, 2012 at 1:40 PM Comments comments (0)

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

OBI-WAN: That boy is our last hope.

YODA: No..there is another...

iPhone5: 3 weeks in

Posted on October 26, 2012 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (3)

It was no secret that my previous phone was pretty old school. And by “old school,” I mean “lame.” In fact Lady Phone garnered quite a reputation for herself (actually garnering a Twitter parody account at one point, which, I can say now, was NOT run by me but rather the very clever Sarah Fleishman from Access Networks) usually eliciting responses li...

The Next Way Apple Can Rule the World

Everything around you that you call life, was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.” – Steve Jobs

I finally cracked it.” – Steve Jobs

Apple has made some pretty big moves lately.

First, the i...

Rare-a Nevada: Six hard-to-find Sierra Nevada Ales

Posted on October 19, 2012 at 3:40 PM Comments comments (1)

Hopefully you’ll recall the excellent Guest Blog that my brother delivered after his recent visit to the Sierra Nevada brewery in Chico, CA. Adam – the far more generous of the Sciacca brothers – also delivered even more from his trip, picking up five hard to find Sierra Nevada ales and sending them to me to sample. (I then stumbled across...

What's Covered? The dirty bit after the honeymoon

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 2:55 PM Comments comments (0)

There’s that golden, warm, sweet glowing period that surrounds that first, wonderful, falling-in-love part of a relationship. The sun shines a little brighter, birds chirp a little sweeter, rainbows add a new color and even Fiona Apple is happy.

During this time, everyone is on their best behavior and all the little faults and foibles are overlooked and often thought of as cute, endearing quirks.

Automation 1, Green Living 0

Opened my e-mail in-box this morning – well, actually, I tapped “Mail” on my iPhone5 ‘cause that’s how I roll now, playa’! – and saw a message with the tantalizing subject line titled “FREE Driver for Control4.”

Since they pretty much had me at “FREE” and then closed the deal with “Control4,” I boldly pressed on. Turns out it was a message from a company called...

Summing up A/V in one scene

Posted on October 11, 2012 at 5:45 PM Comments comments (1)

We were watching TV last night and the opening dialog from the show Up All Night was just so full of spot-on, brilliant amazingness that I had to share it for all to enjoy.

So, I’ll set the scene; married couple Reagan (Christina Applegate) and Chris (Will Arnett) are sitting on their couch eating and watching TV. (I think it is an episode of Real Housewives of Something-Something they are watching.) When – poof! Sudde...

Batorukyandiba! Battle, Candy Bar!

Posted on October 10, 2012 at 11:05 AM Comments comments (5)

I made some comment on Twitter a little while back about finding the closest replacement to my most beloved candy bar, the Bar None. For those of you who remember this bar it was utter perfection molded into a dark chocolate rectangle. It was chocolate crème filled chocolate wafers covered in chocolate and then topped with peanuts and then the whole thing was slathered in more rich chocolate. The bar had firmness and texture and flavor that was just…well, let’s...

Mo' Custom, Mo' Problems

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 10:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Lest you all think that I just sit around at work all day listening to the sound of my arteries hardening, trolling the Internet for the latest The Gregory Brothers autotuned masterpiece, or working on some new 2500 word blogging manifesto, I thought I’d share not one but TWO calls I received yesterday. These share the kinds of “oh, this crazy, crazy world we work in!” stuff that I imagine custom...

Is 3D still a thing?

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 3:25 PM Comments comments (0)

Penny: Um, okay. Tell Bernadette to tell Priya that I’m on my way to Prague to shoot a movie with Angelina Jolie.

Amy: Got it. Is it going to be in 3-D?

Penny: What? I don’t know. It doesn’t matter.

Amy: I’m gonna say 3-D. That’ll let her know the studio has faith in it.̶...

On Reviewing Gear

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 12:00 AM Comments comments (2)

When you think about it, there are really only a handful of people out there that have the good great fortune to be able to review audio/video gear professionally. And I’m not talking about the people that post the exhaustive, five-or-more minute, “I just got a new gizmo! Watch me unbox it and pull out all of the manuals and accessories! And I’ll show you the front and rear panel and describe each connection!” videos, or the ones that tr...
