May your ugliness be beautiful

Received an e-mail from PR buddy, Micah Sheveloff, this morning that I felt I'd pass along. In exchange for exposing and sharing the nightmare, shame and personal humiliation which is the wiring behind your TV, ZVOX will reward someone with a new home theater system.

To enter the “Ugly TV Contest,” simply send a photo of your system's rat's nest and you could be rolling in style with a ZVOX 550 system requiring only a single wire.  A sample photo and the horror which was my system during my recent makeover follow the press release.  May the worst man win!

Swampscott, Massachusetts, April 9th,2010—ZVOX (, the company that pioneered the concept of the single-connecting-wire home theater system, has announced an "Ugly TV Contest." The winning entrant -- submitting the photo showing the biggest mess of wires in back of a TV -- will receive a ZVOX Z-Base 550 home theater system.

“TV wire hairballs are a growing problem in our society” says ZVOX founder Tom Hannaher. “It started out 30 years ago with a simple VCR hookup, but now there are cable boxes, Xboxes, BluRay players and multi-speaker surround sound systems. It's a real mess. I'm suspicious that wires mate and produce offspring back there!”

The ZVOX Ugly TV Contest is designed to draw attention to this pernicious malady before family pets or young children are lost in the copper jungle that exists behind most modern TVs. "I have four children including a seven-month-old boy who's just learning to crawl," exclaims Kate Connors, Internet Marketing Manager at ZVOX. "He could get lost in the wire jungle."

Entry photographs should be emailed to, with "Ugly TV Contest" as the subject line of the email. Entries must be received no later than April 30,2010.

I laughed with tears when I read "don't look at me - I'm hideous." Was that you crying out in pain or your multiple systems and their overexposed wiring liaisons?
